Goodbye 2020, Hello 2021!

Posted: January 1st, 2021

This year I think we can ALL say it has been one crazy rollercoaster ride. Every year when the New Year comes along, we tend to set these high goals for ourselves. Instead of setting reasonable yearly goals, why not set daily, weekly or even monthly goals. If you have not been to the gym in years, don't jump the gun and get a gym membership. Instead set a goal that you are going to go walk everyday, or do a 30 minute workout each day for 5 days and they can be any 5 days you want. Don't overdo. If shedding a few pounds is one of your goals, just getting your body moving is a huge step in the right direction.

Another goal we all tend to set for ourselves is healthy eating. Yes, being conscious of what we consume is crucial. One good thing about the pandemic is that we all had to stay home and not eat out as much. However, just because you are eating at home, doesn't mean that it is healthy. Make a meal plan and try to stick to it. Pinterest has really helped me look for alternatives. Instead of eating pasta, try spaghetti squash. When having tacos, maybe try lettuce wraps instead of tortillas. You don't have to overhaul your entire diet, just tweak your meals and that is a start in moving in the right direction!

What about YOU-time? I think we should all have a goal of taking care of YOU. We are all so busy taking care of others that we tend to forget about ourselves. Even finding some down time is beneficial. Let's focus on de-stressing; after the year we've had, we should all focus on that. Read a book that you have put off, or simply plan a spa day. It does not even have to be a whole spa day, just book a massage or a facial, or just get your nails done. Whatever you do, do something for you. Find it in your budget to try to go once a month. It's beneficial to splurge a little when it comes to looking after yourself. Live in the moment. Our health is more important than anything, so remember that when you are going into the New Year!
