A spa day is a great indulgence after a hard weeks worth of work. A day spent pampering yourself provides numerous benefits, and can help keep the mind and body relaxed for days on end. It is important to create a balance of wellness and relaxation in your mind and body to prevent a build-up of stress hormones. This can be done by performing calming activities, such as a day at the spa. It is essential to be relaxed before you enter the spa to reap the full benefits of the spa treatments you receive. Doing activities that relax you in the days after your spa treatments can be very beneficial too, since it will help to keep your body relaxed. Here are five ways you can relax before and after your spa day.

Listen to Calming Music

Listening to music can be a very effective way to calm yourself. Go on YouTube and look up relaxing, calm music. An example would be music by Enya, she makes music that can help relax you.

Practice Yoga

Yoga has been proven to have numerous health benefits, one of which being to reduce stress. Invest in a yoga DVD to help learn some poses, or look them up online to learn the ropes. Even 20 minutes of yoga can greatly calm both mind and body.

Do Breathing Exercises

We often breath too shallowly, and too fast when we are stressed. Take time out of your day to practice some deep breathing, which is an instant relaxer you probably learned in yoga.

Read a Book or Magazine

Curling up on the couch with a novel or your latest magazine is a great stress reliever. Reading clears your mind so that you're not stressing over minuscule things in your daily life.

Take a Bubble Bath

A hot bath will sooth your whole body. Fill up the tub with steaming water and your favorite bubble bath or bath oil. Soak in the water and breath in the soothing scents for a half hour or so and you're sure to be calm when you emerge. Practicing these five things is enjoyable and will help you become more relaxed before and after spa day. Relax and get ready for a great massage at the spa.
