Skin care, daily skin care regimen; sun damaged skin, healthy skin, facials, medications and facial interaction. It’s understandable to be skeptical about medications and facial interaction. A daily skin care regimen is very important to maintain your healthy skin. Let’s face it; nobody wants to be embarrassed by the effects of certain medications after they’ve had a facial. Certain medications might make your skin sensitive after a facial. It’s always important to check first either with your doctor, and or your spa technician. Be honest and ask before you have it done.  Play it safe because you don’t want to have any surprises like swelling or rashy skin. If you are really skeptical, then it might be best to wait until you finish taking the medication. Absolutely do not stop taking medication without consulting your physician just to have a spa treatment.

Some medications will make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Antibiotics usually will have a warning on the label to stay out of the sun while taking this medication.  Your immune system may become sensitive to the antibiotic the first time you take it. You may have an allergic reaction the next time you take the antibiotic. The antibiotics that are most likely to cause an allergic reaction are penicillin’s, cephalosporin’s, and sulfa drugs. An allergic reaction happens when your immune system sees the antibiotic as a threat and releases chemicals. This skin reaction will show up on your skin, not only your face, but all over your body.  Skin can swell, peel, rash or blister.

Taking antidepressant drugs is another culprit for skin irritations. Some people taking these medications report having dry skin, skin rashes, itchy skin and skin discoloration among other side effects. Sometimes what helps one problem creates another problem. Many people take antidepressants on a daily basis for numerous health issues.

Having a daily skin care regimen is very important for healthy skin and personal hygiene. It’s best to consult your physician when you are thinking about having a facial.
