Waxing: What To Expect

If you’ve never had a bikini wax before, there are a few things to consider before choosing a spa or salon. Bikini waxing is one of the most requested services found at salons and spas. Spa technicians use a variety of techniques depending on where you go. Make sure you are a candidate for waxing before making an appointment. Some women have sensitive skin and break out after a bikini wax.

How It’s Done

When you arrive for your appointment, you will be expected to fill out a form that will ask you questions about your skin and health. A spa technician will lead you into a private room. You will be asked to remove your pants while leaving your underwear on. Some salons will provide disposable panties while others do not. The technician returns to the room and ask you how much hair you want removed. Keep in mind, that the more hair that is removed, the higher the charge.

The technician starts by cleaning the area to be waxed with a pad and disinfectant. The technician applies warm wax on the area of hair that needs to be removed. The wax is removed with a sudden jerking movement. Once the technician is completely waxed, a soothing body lotion is applied. The area may be red and tender for a few hours.

Women Who Should Use Caution

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, then check with your doctor before setting an appointment for a bikini wax. Women who take birth control pills, antibiotics or hormone replacement may need to have a skin allergy test performed before waxing. If you take blood thinners, then you should check with your primary care physician before making an appointment. Bikini waxing is a popular way to rid unwanted hair in the bikini area.
