Preparing For Your First Massage

12 Nov Posted by in Massage | Comments Off on Preparing For Your First Massage

If you have never had a massage before, you are in for a treat. Whether you have physical ailments, aches or pains, or you simply want to relax and enjoy, a massage can be a wonderful experience. There are a few things you must do to prepare yourself for your massage, however. Here are five.

1. Arrive Early

When getting a massage, you rarely walk right in and lay down on the table. First you have to find the place, fill out a form, get undressed and take a minute to relax. Arrive early so you will not arrive flustered and so you do not miss half your session.

2. Take Care of Physical Needs First

It is difficult to relax when you have physical needs demanding your attention. Make sure you use the restroom and get a small drink before your session. Do not eat a large meal beforehand, but make sure you do eat something.

3. Wear Appropriate Clothing

While you likely will not be wearing clothing during your massage, you will want to wear something that you can remove and put on quickly without a lot of fuss. If you do prefer to stay clothed, wear something comfortable that will not get in the way.

4. Tell Your Massage Therapist Your Preferences

While massage therapists are excellent at what they do, they cannot read your mind. Tell your massage therapist if you prefer a harder or softer touch or if something hurts. Tell your therapist what your problem areas are and if you have any concerns.

5. Talk to Your Doctor

While massage is completely safe and effective for most people, there are a few conditions that require a doctor’s approval first. If you are ill, have blood clots, are pregnant, are on medication or have had surgery, talk to your doctor.
